Vancouver is awesome this time of the year, with cherry blossoms blooming everywhere! Although Japan is well known for its Sakura, with spots in Tokyo’s Ueno Park with 800 cherry blossom trees, or Kyoto’s cherry trees next to historical Japanese buildings, has such picturesque beauty. But visitors often have to travel around the country to catch a glimpse of these fleeting blossoms, whereas in Vancouver, you get to see different variants blooming all in one city!
Initially, I’d meant to go to all the cherry blossoms sighting around Greater Vancouver, but realized even just around my neighborhood is already a lot of amazing spots!
Garry Point Park
12011 Seventh avenue, Richmond BC
The first location i went to is Garry Point Park. A friend’s instagram photos attracted me here, but the real thing is so much more beautiful. Garry Point Park is a 75 acre waterfront park right next to Fraser River. There’s a picnic area with spectacular view of Fraser River and Gulf islands. One of its features is Kuno garden, a Japanese style rock garden. It’s also very close to Steveston village.
No. 1 Road
from Westminster Highway to River Road
On the way to the second location, we drove along No. 1 road, and from Westminster highway to River Road was a long row of cherry blossom trees lining the right side of the street.
Terra Nova Housing Co-operative
6600 Barnard Drive, Richmond BC
Our next location is Terra Nova Housing co-operative. I was a little disappointed when we first turned into the area, but then driving by, I caught a glimpse of this beautiful pathway lined with rows of cherry blossoms. Walking further in, there’s a long stretch of tunnels of Sakura trees. It’s absolutely amazing!
Larry Berg Flight Path Park
Russ Baker Way, Richmond BC
Our last location is Larry Berg flight path park. It’s located right next to the airport, and designed for people to enjoy the view of planes taking off and landing. The cherry trees here were planted in 2011, and have grown a quite a bit since, but still short and stubbly.
