As of September 1st, I am officially renting MY OWN home!! A bit of technicality, because all along I’ve either lived with my parents, rented under my parents name and bank account, or co-shared. Finally, I have my own teeny tiny cozy little place. And omg is it little! But it’s mine, be grateful! *tsk tsk*
It’s situated on Hong Kong island, where everyone believes is way too expensive, and the price is very high for something so small, but at least it’s close to work and leisure. I can take trams (叮叮) for $2.30 or walk half an hour from Causeway Bay, like the most crowded shopping district in HK. I guess I could have picked something smaller and live smack middle of the hustle bustle of Causeway Bay, but I wasn’t sure I’d withstand the lure of shopping every time I head home or all the yummy food in every twist of the road. At least now I can go anywhere within MTR’s reaches even if it’s pouring, because there’s a sheltered bridge. Otherwise I can always cross the road at zebra crossings on either side, so no I won’t be tempted to jaywalk a major road with fast traffic. There’s the usual McD, KFC, Starbucks right beside, and a huge variety of restaurants nearby. Grocery shopping is very convenient with Wellcome next to the MTR exit, Park-n-Shop and Kaibo within short walking, and a wet market too. Though, like the infamous 港女, I’m not sure I can do much de-scaling fish, or de-shelling lobsters or eating live poultry, so it’s a perk, not a deciding factor.
The room, a “cozy” little thing, has a short corridor which leads straight to a bathroom that has a toilet and shower stall, there’s a kitchen unit with a small fridge, electric stove, sink and washing machine; and the rest of the house/room with a rather spacious bed, a teeny thin closet, an impractically big one-person sofa, a TV with cable, and a foldable table which can be extended. The room also has a huge window overlooking the main, street, thankfully a light proof lining was sewn under the curtains and cars weren’t too loud during late hours. Although the view consisted of buildings across the main road, at least it didn’t feel unnecessarily cooped up, such as staring at the back end of the next building.
All in all, it’s a lovely little place I can call my own. Oh, and besides my little room tour, welcome to my new virtual home!!
