Finished my next specialty placement in Accidents & Emergency department (AED) or Emergency Room (ER). Triage: one aspect unique to ER and one that requires many experience to make a correct judgement according to guidelines. Speed: how to do everything accurately, safely with speed. You never know what might come up next so everything has to be done as soon as possible.

There’s less case management in A&E, but it’s just as important to know your client thoroughly and deliver appropriate most beneficial treatment at the shortest time possible.  Nurses work closely with doctors, especially in emergency situations, communication is an important skill to develop.    It’s really great to see the beginning of the whole hospitalization process, although acute wards see many different diseases, but A&E has already screened through.  A&E is one of those specialties that gets your blood pumping and the day sure goes by quick as there’s so much to learn, so much to do and think right on your feet.
